Since ScheduleOnce is tightly integrated with Google Calendar, it is possible to connect almost any calendar with ScheduleOnce by using Google Calendar as a bridge between your desktop calendar and ScheduleOnce.
Connecting any desktop calendar with a web scheduling application such as ScheduleOnce requires:
- A method to connect the desktop calendar with an online database that will be available 7x24. This can be achieved by installing a connector program on the desktop calendar machine or by communicating via a standard protocol such as CalDAV
- An online database that will be constantly updated with all calendar events. This database needs to be available 7x24 since the personal computer on which the desktop calendar resides is often shut down and cannot provide the real time availability information that is necessary for the scheduling process
- The online database must be tightly integrated with the web scheduling application
In our opinion, using Google Calendar as a bridge between ScheduleOnce and the desktop calendar is the best solution because:
- Google Calendar is able to sync with almost any calendar. Google itself provides syncing solutions for key calendars and other calendars are supported by third party applications
- Google Calendar is an excellent online storage. It is secure and available by Google standards, and most importantly, ScheduleOnce reads and writes to it in real time so that your desktop calendar information is never stored on the ScheduleOnce servers.
So even if you are not actively using Google Calendar to manage your Schedule, you can simply use it as a bridge between your desktop calendar and ScheduleOnce. Google calendar is free with no restrictions and takes only a minute to setup.
